Teamwork to Make the Dream Work

Husband + Wife = TEAM

Whether you realize it or not, you and your spouse are teammates! How? Well for obvious reasons you both said “I do” and agreed to share the same last name, lol! Although there is an “I” in marriage, there is no “I” in TEAM and a husband and wife should always work together, not against each other.  There should be no hidden fees or agendas. Why should we work together? Because…

Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labor.”

-Ecclesiastes 4:9

When I first joined the team, I was selfish. I was the teammate that lacked sportsmanship and never wanted to pass the ball. I was afraid that I would lose at the hand of someone else’s play. Needless to say, I was wrong and had an awful lot of maturing to do. Twelve years later, I am blessed to say that my husband and I are still standing on the field as a TEAM! Throughout the course of our marriage, I have learned that working together doubles the strength and allows us to reach our goals on the field a lot sooner. As husband and wife, we understand our roles. We do not have a problem passing each other the ball because we admire each other’s unique ability to succeed.  As teammates, we will always have each other’s best interest at heart.

“Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

-Philippians 2:4

Here are a few ways you can strengthen your TEAM

  • Cook together
  • Play board/video games together
  • Date your teammate at least once a week
  • Set goals and deadlines together
  • Support and encourage your teammate

Your common goal should always be to WIN…together! You should never be in competition with your teammate because winning together restores unity. In a marriage, no one is superior. Each spouse should share and contribute an equal amount of love, sacrifice, and humility. After all, teamwork is the key to living life in harmony.

“Marriage should be a safe haven, not a  battlefield.”
