Ok guys, as I have previously mentioned, these past few weeks have been very busy for me. I have been working and traveling like crazy. However, I am still on an Essence Festival high! Can I just start by complimenting New Orleans for its vibrant scenery? From around the clock nightlife, to its hospitable residents, and its unmatched cuisine, I enjoyed every minute of my stay. I actually wished I could have stayed longer but I doubt I would have survived the heat, lol! I believe The Big Easy controls its own climate because I was Louisiana “Hot and Spicy” the whole time I was there!
For starters, my Uber driver from the airport REALLY raised the bar and set the tone for my stay. Upon entering his vehicle, he turned on the disco lights and put on a clown wig. The vibe does not get any better than that. Of course we danced to Juvenile’s Back That A$$ Up and a few other local hip hop favorites. My team and I literally laughed the entire trip to the room.
Later that night I got a chance to take a stroll in the heart and soul of the city…The FRENCH QUARTER! Let’s just say we created countless memories and took plenty of photos; some which may not make the cut to post, lol!! I was extremely impressed by the talent I witnessed. The live performances and impromptu freestyles were one of my most favorite moments. While there, I stopped by Felix’s Restaurant & Oyster Bar. Lord have mercy! Their crab fingers almost made me want to slap my momma, luckily she and my sister were stuck in traffic and by the time they got there I was done with the appetizer, lol!!
For those of you who do not know, I am a HUGE sweets fan! It was only right for me to stop by Café Du Monde and try their Arcadian inspired fried fritter called Beignets. It was soooo yummy and topped with TONS of powdered sugar, just how I like it! I was even able to snap a pic with a few employees and chat with them about their most popular powdered French style doughnut.
Fun fact: They are only served in orders of three.
Before leaving the Big Easy, I had a chance to have brunch at the famous Ruby Slipper Café. What a way to end my dining experience? This place definitely provided superior quality food and beverages! I ordered the Hot- Smoked Salmon Omelette which was mouth-watering and undeniably satisfying to my taste buds. My server also made the best Arnold Palmer I have ever had in my ENTIRE life. Yeah, I know it is only made up of iced-tea and lemonade, but it had a New Orleans kick to it for sure! As an added bonus of the Ruby Slipper Experience, I had the pleasure of meeting the Founder and CEO Jennifer Weishaupt during Jessica Alexander’s Boss Babe Brunch Tour where I was the guest speaker. There we mingled, had a few mimosas, and motivated each other to be FEARLESS!
I was also a panelist at Sammie Haynes’ Love Freedom Movement Bold Beauty Boss Experience featuring Vivia A. Fox (Actress/Author), Lyrica Anderson (Love & Hip Hop Hollywood), Tamika Scott (R&B Group Xscape), Genise Shelton (Bravo’s Married to Medicine), Gabby Sands Jones (RCAI/ Sony Music), and many more! While there, I shared some advice to aspiring entrepreneurs and Bold Beauty Bosses!
- Be sure of yourself and your own ideas- NEVER seek validation from others!
- Be CONFIDENT- be BOLD, be BEAUTIFUL, be YOU!
- Keep God FIRST- Walk in his PERFECT will, not your PERMISSIVE will! And remember when you RUSH things, you RUIN things!
I have been a lot of places and seen a lot of things, but I have never experienced anything like Essence Festival! It was definitely an unmatched and unforgettable experience!! If you have never been before, I recommend you go next year to see for yourself. Do not just take my word for it!
Thank you lord for allowing me to be the women I am today! I would like to thank my brand management team iGN PR for coordinating an amazing unforgettable experience.
